The basic motive of these firms is to participate in foreign exchange market in relation with foreign securities. Investment firms usually have to deal with international equities. To facilitate their transaction pertaining to international securities, they always find themselves in need of buying and selling some foreign currencies. By doing so, these investment management companies also come and become a part of the group which is supposed to create an impact on the overall market.
Although, investment management firms do play a role in foreign exchange market, but, they, usually, aren't interested in making profit in forex market. Their main aim is to facilitate their own transactions pertaining to foreign equities. Along with a disparity in the outlook of these investment management firms, there can also be firms which may differ in size as well. There are some firms which are not large enough and don't really create an impact on market structure in short run. On the other hand, there are some big investment management companies as well which comes with greater resource and they can really create some impact on the market as a whole.
